Mangle (Bear) Bug Proof w/Math & Screens

The following post is copied from earlier work I did on the druid forums. At first I thought my formulas might be wrong, but it looks like I did indeed use the correct multipliers, taking Savage Fury into account. If you find something wrong with my math, please speak up so I can go back to work on it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, I just ran some testing, and I think what I have points to a bug in Mangle. My monster crit in PvP was well beyond what should have been possible given my gear and Mangle's mechanics. Here we go:

Theoretical top bear crit against zero reduction: (501 top end dmg * 1.56) + 211 = 992.56 * 2.3 = 2282.88
SS of bear stats: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/sheddthehead/bearstats.jpg

"Normal" crit against dueled druid in caster form with 17.30% physical dmg reduction: 1877 (-93.85 for Auchindoun buff adjustment) = 1783.15
SS of combat log: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/sheddthehead/1877casterform.jpg

Bugged crit against druid in caster form in PvP with ?? damage reduction: 2402
SS of crit: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/sheddthehead/2402mangle.jpg

What strikes me here is that I was able to crit above what should be my theoretical top possible mangle. My target didn't have zero reduction either (he wasn't naked in a Battleground).

Now, to find the theoretical top mangle against a zero-reduction target using cat form Mangle modifiers for a bear-form weapon:

12.144 * (55 + 1625 (AP) / 14) + 801.5 = 2878.99

And lets estimate and apply the same physical damage reduction to what a druid in caster form healing gear would have (I used my own healing gear for this since there's no way to know your opponent's AC, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v714/sheddthehead/healerac.jpg ):

2878.99 * (1 - .1669) = 2398

Bingo! My PvP crit (2402) and my theoretical top crit against a caster form with my AC using the cat modifiers (2398) are almost exactly the same. If I was unbuffed, my damage reduction would be 14.20% with a max possible crit using the same mods of 2470, putting it well within reach. If I was wearing cloth (which the other druid might have been), that would be another way to get a lower AC and be susceptible to these crits.

I'm not a math whiz by any means, but I hope these calculations and screenshots raise enough concern about cat form modifiers being erroneously applied to bear mangles in the live game, which may be the source of the "unintentional" damage output of bears. Please, make sure the live programming is sound before making game adjustments.

Also, keep my thread visible on the general forums as well if you feel so inclined:
