Mana Tea Nerf (PvP ramifications)

We really need some developer feed back on this change. Please explain how MW monks will be playable in pvp with this massive nerf?

In pve mistweavers are using free heals, and low cost heals which is why they do not need very much spirit. In pve MW are not very good single target healers.

In pvp this flips completely around. In pvp because the spec is horrible at single target healing we have to burn insane amounts of mana trying to keep people alive. Our heals are all incredibly weak, and we are forced into a situation of spamming low HPM spells at huge cost to keep people alive.

There is just no way this spec is playable in pvp with this large of a nerf to mana tea especially with no single target healing fixes.

Please explain this, and let us know if anything else is being planned because right now this seems down right crazy. If you read Arenajunkies all the other people that play this class between 2k-2400 are saying the same thing.

We are the worst pvp arena healer and this nerf will not only make us not a option for teams but the spec will pretty much have no place in arena even in tier3 comps. We will go oom in 1-2mins trying to keep anyone alive single target.

/sigh

The fact that a 50% nerf to Mana Tea feels like a 50% nerf to your overall mana regen should indicate why the change was necessary. We want healers to want Spirit. When a healing class is actively avoiding Spirit whenever possible, there's a problem.

That said, there’s still a lot of work and discussion going on here. We’re probably not going to keep this particular change. The overall goal is simply that you care about Spirit, and we’ll be rebalancing as necessary.

After a lot of heavy discussion, we've decided not to go ahead with the Mana Tea nerfs for now. As many of you have pointed out (and we’re keenly aware), solving the issues with Mistweavers’ mana regen is not a small task, and while we’re not happy with how things are working currently, it’s just a bigger problem than we’re comfortable trying to solve in 5.4. We’ll be revisiting the issue in the future.

Note: There is a possibility that the next PTR build will have a number of other changes that we were considering, but have since decided not to go ahead with. Should that happen, they will be reverted in the build after next.

As it looks like several of the changes I mentioned as being reverted are starting to pop up on datamining sites, here's a list of what we've already reverted internally:

  • Mana Tea will remain at 4% mana restored per stack
  • Expel Harm, Soothing Mist, and Crackling Jade Lightning mana cost nerfs will be reverted
  • Renewing Mist will continue to generate Chi.

Again, those are changes that we've already decided not to go through with, but the current PTR build was put together before that decision was made. As some have already pointed out, making those changes would require large changes elsewhere, which in turn would likely cause even more changes to be necessary, and so on. It's a bit too much to try to squeeze in for 5.4.

Also note that, while we are going to make changes related to Mistweaver mana gameplay in the future, they may not be these specific changes. It's something that's still under heavy discussion.
