Q u o t e:
Hmm, Lactose and Khalroar I guess that means folding theorycraft, macros and addon list into one thread.
It somehow would be great if we kept editing rights. Maybe the right thing is to find a time to create the new thread, each post as many placeholders as we need (I'll need 8) and hope noone spams inbetween?
If someone posts in between those placeholders, then just report those posts and then we will delete them :-)
Q u o t e:
First post should probably be a navigation guide, because people looking for addons don't necessarily look for macros. People who care for theorycraft may not care for either of the latter...
It sounds like a very good idea to make the first post an index/navigation post to make it easier to find the relevant information.
Q u o t e:
Hmm actually Veneras, you could help us... take the three threads that exist. Copy the structured first posts together and make an initial intro post with links to each part? That way we keep editing rights individually and there is minimal chance for random posts interfering.
The idea is good, but I am afraid that we would lose the guides after some time if we did that. If there is a thread that no one posts in within a weeks time, then that thread will disappear from the forums if it is not stickied. People often read the guide threads, but seldom posts in them, and that is why I am afraid that we would lose guides if we do as you suggest.
I know the editing rights is nice to have for your material, but since it is not possible to assign editing rights with the current forum software, we have to make compromises as best as we can. I therefore suggest that someone makes the initial guide compilation thread, and then get it reported for a sticky.
Then if someone in the future wants to make an update to their guide, but hasn't got editing rights, then they either make a reply in the sticky thread where they post the information they wish to have updated so that the person with editing rights can add it, or they create an entirely new guide compilation thread where they copy all the information from the old compilation thread, then add their own updated information and then they get the new thread reported for a sticky to replace the old one.
Q u o t e:
Will be really hard for us to do this without getting messed up by random folks.
It will be a challenge yes, but just report those posts created by random people so that we can help keeping things clean :-)
A complete different solution to this problem is to create a wiki, and then link to it from these forums. The Mage players have done this, and it seems to work pretty well:
