Ranged weapon slot over relic

has anyone noticed that many times a ranged weapons stats will fall very short when compared to an equal ilvl relic

lets compare for a moment the dps triumph ranged and some of the dps relics

43 agi
43 str
57 ap
28 exp
28 arp

DK melee dps 200 str for 20sec at an 80% chance to proc from main nuke

Ret melee dps 200 str for 16 sec at a 70% chance to proc from a dot that is (i believe) kept active the whole fight

feral dps 200 crit for 12 sec on a 70% chance to proc from a main attack

it seems to me that unless the internal cooldown of these procs is atleast 50-60 sec the relics are far superior to a ranged weapon... even more so for those classes that cant ever find a well itemized ranged weapon to fill the slot, see warriors... we get nothing but agi and AP filled options, its even laughable at times because the only single weapon for a level 80 warrior that has strength on it and isnt a tank ranged is dropped in 10m uld

the funny thing is even that weapon is itemized with haste... of all stats on the only warrior friendly(ish) weapon in the game haste

conclusion... ranged weapons that fill a melee dps's ranged slot are pathetic when compared to the relic equivalence that so many other classes enjoy

You can’t just compare any two item slots across classes. Classes are designed with their total gear package in mind. It’s only an issue if an item slot is such a major upgrade for one type of character that character progression grows too quickly with certain drops. The closest thing to this is probably weapons, which are generally better for melee than casters. However, the rest of a caster’s armor benefits him or her more than it does the melee class, so overall things average out.

That said, we’re not 100% happy with the relic implementation (or ranged weapons for non-hunters for that matter). They feel a little too much like a "stat stick" and the bonuses have shifted to feeling pretty passive. This is something we’d like to improve in the future.
