When you join a battleground, you will be placed in a new raid exclusive for that battleground. All the people who join that battleground will be placed in that raid. The people in this raid can chat by using /battleground.

The tricky part with this new feature is that if a player was in a raid or party previous to joining the battleground he will still be able to speak with them through the normal /raid and /party channels. However, the player will not be able to see them in the raid user interface as the people in the battleground will be listed there.

So, when you are in the cross realm battleground you will be able to see what you type in /raid and /party and your friends can speak to you the same way, however the players that are in the battleground will not be able to see this chat since it belongs to your realms party and raid.

In order to speak to the players in the battleground you can use the normal /say command and people around you will see it.
In order to speak to the cross realm battleground raid you are in, you will need to use the /battleground command.
You can also send tells to players across realms that are in the same battleground as you. For example, you want to send a /tell to Johnny who is on the Outland server. You then use this command:
/t Johnny-outland Hey Johnny!!!

The General and Local defense channels for the battleground will not be seen by other players on other realms, however they can be used to communicate with players of the same faction that belong to your realm during the battle.

Once you leave the battleground, you will no longer be able communicate with the players of the other realms.
You will then return to your old raid/party layout, with the same arrangements in it as before you joined the battleground.
