Dear Mr. or Mrs. Blue;

We know we are not supposed to call you out on the forums but here I feel it is necessary. Engineering is in a pathetic state that is unrivaled by any other profession before at any point in wow. Many of us <Engineers> have stayed mellow and calm for the 3.1 ptr testing while others among us have vented frequently and furiously on these forums. It is hard to stay calm and come here week after week downloading the updated version of the ptr and looking at the patch notes and still not seeing anything for engineering. Anyone can go to the profession forums and see the <Goblins> and <Gnomes> are ready to band together by sending a gnome piloted helicopter strapped full of goblin sappers straight into Blizzard HQ. HUZZAH!

In all seriousness, how hard is it to grant <Engineers> the same stat bonuses that other professions do? The +50stam, +64 ap, + 46 spell power. Can anyone tell the difference between a <Gnome> and <Goblin> <Engineer> anymore? What about all these awesome mechanical things in Uluduar but they cannot teach me anything new??!! The armor enchant that <Engineers> can apply to gloves gives me a grand total of .85 mitigation on the ptr. I have to give up an +18 stam enchant to use it as well. I fail to see the logic here.

Mr. Blue we <Engineers> would really hate to have April First come around again only to find another <Tin Foil Hat> awaiting us. Alas, if there are zero plans for engineer in 3.1 just politely and kindly let us know. I am currently in the process of buying the mats to power level jewel crafting for 3.1. It would be much easier if I could know that engineering will bring my raid little benefit in 3.1 so I could start leveling jewel crafting now rather than guestimating the materials I will need.

- Signed the <Gnomish> <Engineer> piloting the helicopter

P.S.
Can you tell me where the Professions research and development team are located in the building? :D

EDIT

“Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night sweet prince”

Alas, this world hardly knew thee; this world was not good enough for you

The changes that are in the latest version of the patch notes are what we currently have planned for engineering in patch 3.1.

The perks for engineering are different compared to other professions but engineering has always been a bit unique with their toys and whatnot. We feel the perks work out compared to what other classes have for the time being and have no changes planned at this time.

The mote extractor was put in to help get money through the profession which works pretty well.

It isn't that we are ignoring this thread, but simply we don't have anything further to add to the topic. We are looking at the feedback here but cannot guarantee any direct changes from it in the future.

Q u o t e:

Well, at least we know someone besides the moderators are looking.

Just please seriously reconsider not adding any Engineering stuff from Ulduar. It's an engineer's dream raid, set within the heart of a Titan technological fortress! To get nothing from it would is just ... baffling.

It's likely too late in the process to add new things like this.

Q u o t e:

Can we at least know if there is anything planned at all?

To my knowledge everything planned for engineering in patch 3.1 is listed in the PTR patch notes.

What would help beyond measure Bornakk, would be if you could see your way to answering some straightforward questions

1. Could we have some elucidation of what perks engineering has that in the developers view "work out compared to what other classes (sic) have"?

2 . What is the problem in providing a drop for goggle upgrades? (doesn't have to be BIS, we'd just like goggles that are ballpark competitive).

3 . Whilst the mote extractor was finally a means of making some money in TBC, the pretty much universal view of engineers is that as a help to get money in WOTLK it doesn't work pretty well. Can we swap Northrend motes for something cool to drop in Uldaar in 3.1.x?

4. If we really are just getting :

Engineering
Added a new Reticulated Armor Webbing engineering enchant that increases the armor on plate gloves.
Added a new Springy Arachnoweave engineering enchant that grants passive spell power in addition to turning your cloak into a parachute.
Flexweave Underlay now grants passive agility in addition to its normal effect.
Nitro Boosts now grant passive critical strike rating in addition to their speed boost.
Nitro Boosts now make you drop PVP flags when used, as well as preventing you from picking them up while the effect is active.

and nothing else in 3.1; Do the developers have plans to seriously review engineering in 3.2?

5. Is there ever any prospect of some of the vanilla Wow favourites like the MC caps (with strictly no arena caveats) capable of being used again?

Thank you in advance for your reply

1. The perks are the glove enchants. The armor increase on the gloves should about match up to what stamina would be there instead, the haste boost can be really useful on some classes (whether it's just faster healing or faster damage), and the damage from the rocket launchers should be about equivalent to the dps boost that perks from other professions provide.

If we wanted the perks for every profession to be the same, we would just add 50 stamina for having one profession and then 50 attack power/spell power for having another one - but we would rather keep the perks a little more unique and fitting for each profession.

2. We don't want to provide really good and/or best-in-slot items that you upgrade throughout an expansion. We kind of set a precedent for this in The Burning Crusade, but we weren't happy with it so we are trying to get away from it now.

3. This can probably vary a bit depending on the demand from one realm to another. We think it is okay as it is for the time being.

4. There are no plans for an overhaul if that is what you mean, but we will continue to watch all professions and make changes as we feel they are needed.

5. Items like the mind control cap would not be usable in Battlegrounds or Arenas. Balancing an unbalanced item is extremely problematic if not impossible. There is a much greater possibility of toy items that don't provide an extreme advantage or have crazy scaling being updated than something like a mind control cap.

There is always the possibility for more changes and tweaks to how things work, like removing an activation effect from the global cooldown and such, but this profession is especially challenging to balance between PvP and PvE. There are quite a few high level PvP players that use this profession because of the extra burst it can supply, so if you feel the damage is not enough, it is difficult to just increase the numbers when it is already powerful in PvP.

Q u o t e:
Rockets off GCD then, please?

Sure, how about increase in damage too? These shouldn't match a general enchant, they should provide more dps than that through a method that is perfect for engineers (rockets).

Q u o t e:
Cloak Tinkers = regular enchant, but still having the parachute effect. Cloak tinkers need to be equal to other cloak enchants, while retaining the parachute effect (or, at most, only 1-2 stat points lower).

In 3.1 it will be approximately 75% of the regular enchant along with the effect. I know you are asking for more, but we will have to wait and see.

Q u o t e:
ability to trade in Tier tokens for goggle schematic (BoP, of course), that is identical statwise to the tier helm, but has all the 'traditional' engineering goggle abilities also (and, ideally, maintains set bonuses)?

The goal of the items from professions is to be a good first tier start for a character but not be something that continues to be upgraded and used from one patch to the next. I get that you mainly want just the look, but there are no plans to do that at this time.

Q u o t e:
Debatable, but since that varies from server to server, not really much we can do to convince you otherwise I guess.

Yes, you can make more money from some other professions - there will always be one that is super awesome with money and such, but we feel this is doing okay at this time.

Q u o t e:
Any answer to the oft asked question of why so many things that just scream 'Engineering' end up going in the TCG, while no new 'toys' are added to Engineering?

I don't really have anything to say regarding the TCG as that is kind of a special case - but while we do want to add more toys we also have to be careful as the balancing on the things in the past got completely out of whack and then I am pretty sure there would be a few complaints when they get nerfed.

Someone also mentioned having the extra armor on other armor types, I would say keep an eye out for that it's a possibility for sure. ;-)

Bornakk explain Gnomish Lightning Generator nerf :(

The burst was higher than we wanted, we lowered the burst but put passive crit on the item.
