Honor curve and PvP concerns

It was mentioned in a previous post that the 1.12 honor system would be more forgiving. In fact, it is just the opposite. It is now just as bad if not worse. I was about 30% of the way through Rank 7 and on my way to Rank 8. However, this week I got over 150,000 honor and I am only about 65% of the way through Rank 7. Your honor system has not improved at all, Blizzard. All you managed to do was reduce queue times.

Subject changed to reflect a more informative title.

More than likely the PvP changes have encouraged more players to participate in PvP, either through the battlegrounds or the outdoor PvP objectives. Compound that by the ability in the cross realm battlegrounds to fight a larger possible number of honor giving targets, and it's entirely likely that the amount of people participating in PvP and the amount of honor being gained has increased substantially making your rank achievement a bit tougher for now. It may just take a bit for everything to settle down as the PvP features move out of their 'cool new feature' phase, and everyone either calms down a bit or goes back to what they would normally be doing.

The mechanics for the honor system are still bad, it should have allowed higher rank to be gained regardless of more people participating.

It might not be a comfort now, but we agree with your sentiment, and as you have (hopefully) read in a lot of the expansion preview information, we are changing how the honor system works substantially upon its release.

Thanks for saying it like it is.

I do apriciate you not trying to spin the issue like most companies would do.

Better specifics on the PVP 2.0 system would eliminate alot of the pvp posts here

What would you like to know? :)

Lets see...

- What happens to ex rank 14's/anyone who had a high rank but has now droped down.
- What happens to the person who say earns 300,000 honor the week before the exp, ie how does honor transfer over.
- How will be be earning ranks? If not through the honor grind but a point system how does honor = points and points = rank?
- Will their be a new BG or just arena system?
- Anymore details on arena yet?
- Got any of the new rank names you wanna release, hope their good, will take allot for me to passup my High Warlord Narull title.

Im sure I could think of more given time, but their what first come to mind as importent things we want to know.

Players will carry their highest rank achieved title to the new title display system that is currently being planned. While we are only currently planning for titles to be achieved through the new arena system once the expansion launches, we may bring back the old titles in one way or another, and possibly introduce others through various in-game tasks or quests.

As the honor system is fundamentally changing we will not be transferring anything from the old honor system to the new honor system beyond the aforementioned rank title.

The new honor system does not use a ranking system. The arena system will be the new system that will allow you to display your PvP prowess on a competitive ladder.

While we have not announced any new battlegrounds for the expansion the possibility is always there.

There was a large announcement concerning the arena system on the old forums, I'll dig it up and bring it over here.

We have yet to announce any of the new titles, but we're hoping they will accurately display and reward the achievements in the arena system.

Arena info posted on the old forums:

  • When a player enters an arena battle, all buffs and conjured items are purged/deleted. This is done to ensure no outside buffs or items from members outside of your team are able to be used in an arena battle.

  • No consumables other than bandages and conjured items can be used while in the arena. There will be a waiting area similar to the current battlegrounds where players on the team will be able to conjure items and cast buffs.

  • Abilities/spells/items with cooldowns longer than 15 minutes cannot be used while in the arena.

  • Each arena team will be given a rating, and will be matched up in the arena queue against teams of a similar rating (matching within that specific cross-realm battlegroup). As time progresses the matching system will broaden its search up to a limit if a closely rated team cannot be found.

  • Ratings adjustments are made in the same way that ELO ratings adjustments are made. This system works by adjusting each arena team's rating from a specific match based on the rating of the team they are up against. If a team wins against a team of a higher rating, the increase of their arena rating would be much higher than if they had won against a team of a lower rating. This system will help promote players improving their skill and besting teams which may have previously held the top spots.

  • At the end of each week, characters receive arena points based on their team's rating. A team must have fought a minimum number of battles for the week, which we have announced as currently set to 10 games. A player must have played in at least 30% of the team's battles that week in order to be eligible to receive arena points. Each eligible player will then receive a fraction of the teams total awarded points to spend on arena rewards.

  • Players may spend their points on arena rewards, or save their points until they have enough to get the rewards they desire.

  • There is a limit to the number of points a player can stockpile, which is currently planned to be a little higher than the most expensive item.

  • At the end of a season, players on a team are given a title based on their team's relative position on the ladder which will last through the next arena season.
