WHY are we going to Outland?

Simple question. Is it to kill Illidan? How does it fit into the storyline? Is it a base of the Burning Legion? How will this help the heroes of the Alliance and Horde destroy the Burning Legion?

The portal will be opened, and the evil that has built up behind it threatens all life on Azeroth. Do you wait for it to come to you, your homes, your land? Or do you fight your way in and cut off the threat at the source?
