Please un-suck fishing

the recent fishing changes helped, but its still no where near a fun tradeskill.

1. its the only tradeskill pre-BC that does not have guaranteed skill up methods.
2. this is compounded by a high skill failure rate (as compared to say, trying to mine a orange node)
3 this is compounded again by failures not giving skill ups (unlike weapons training, which it more accurately fits with than tradeskills)
4. the amount of time you can go while still having massive failure rates is not at all similar to other tradeskills. (gaining 50 skill and you still fail 70% ?)
5. its the only tradeskill with random duration use and actually requires "skill" to click on the bobber before it fades.

together, this makes for "the suck"

1. please allow skill ups on fish got away.
2. please up the food value of fish. right now you get fish below the level you are in level appropriate areas
3. lower the cast time to 10 seconds from 20, and allow a catch after 2 seconds.

We're definitely aware of the concerns surrounding fishing, mostly based around that thing people like to call "fun". Some could argue that fishing in World of Warcraft is similar to fishing in real life, and it's just going to bore some of us to tears.

As many of you may remember changes were made to the original fishing design to thwart exploitative use of the fishing profession, but since then some great innovations for the profession have come through. Most notably fishing nodes now allow players a better chance to catch more valuable fish if they take the time to find the nodes. There are also similar fishing nodes that give a better chance to fish up valuable items. More recently the fishing timer was reduced by 10 seconds, which results in more fish - faster - and now a cast is guaranteed not to complete without a nibble. Some big improvements, some small, but all working towards making fishing a little less tedious, and a little more fun (ie profitable).

Our goal of course is to have it fun and accessible to everyone, and it's definitely something we're keeping in mind for future improvements.

Oh, and for those interested in fishing or looking for a little more information check out our guide: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/professions/fishing.html

Q u o t e:

Is the bobber vanishing at the last second intended or was that a bug from the timer change, do you know?

That's a bug and should already be fixed on the 2.2 build that's available on the PTR.

Q u o t e:
Is an instance of clicking a lure and neither getting a fish nor getting a "your fish has got away" message intended, or a bug?

I believe you have the ability to relate an issue without such bitey rhetoric.
