I have been having a bit of trouble with patch 3.3.5. The downloader usually starts upon opening the launcher however it didn't start until after I had logged in. It then paused at 0% for 10 seconds before saying "Patch required. Press the restart button below to exit WoW and download the patch." I press the restart button and this message appears "Failed to apply patch. Please try again later. If this problem persists you may need to reinstall or contact tech. support." I have tried reinstalling twice and still the same message appears. I emailed tech. support but found no solution. I have never had a problem like this before.

Hello Steria,

Do you have Windows 7 or Vista?

When you start up WoW, try right-clicking on the shortcut, and choosing "Run as Administrator".

If this doesn't help, try making a new User Account in Windows, and test playing under that User Account:

Windows Vista & Windows 7:

  • From the Start menu, select Control Panel.

  • Double-click User Accounts, and then click Manage User Accounts.

  • Click Create new account. Enter a name for the account, and then click Next.

  • Click Computer administrator, and then click Create Account.

Windows XP:

  • From the Start menu, select Settings, and then Control Panel.

  • Double-click User Accounts.

  • Click Create new account. Enter a name for the account, and then click Next.

  • Click Computer administrator, and then click Create Account.

Let's try taking ownership of the World of Warcraft folder:

Have you ever had Norton installed? I would run Norton's Removal tool:

I would try a Selective Startup at this point:

Hit the Windows Key + R, and type:

msconfig

Hit Enter or OK.

In the General tab:

1. Choose Selective Startup
2. Disable (uncheck) Load Startup Items
3. Click OK and Reboot
