Cannot defrag WoW files

The Windows system defrag that comes with Windows XP will not defrag some files of WoW (I have attempted several times). My game is therefore running at very low speeds and lags to the point where it inhibits my combat. Is there a backdoor to defragging these files?

Hello Nappetta,

There are some third party disk defragmenters out there, like http://perfectdisk.raxco.com/

File fragmentation is probably a minor source of the perceived lag. I would take a look at these suggestions too:

Q u o t e:
I was trying to avoid third-party products if possible.

Saeya, the defrag simply says:

"Files that did not defragment:"
And lists two World of Warcraft file names and a Blizzard file name.

I've personally used Perfectdisk with good results.

This is an aging system, and there may be nothing left to squeeze out of it, but I'd check for all of the latest drivers from Dell:

The video drivers you're using are the latest from Dell, and they're dated 2005.
