Hello everyone, this thread is meant to be a discussion platform for all things Shadow in the Legion Alpha. As we all know there have been significant changes to how Shadow plays and feels and naturally this brings some problems along with it. There has been some valuable feedback on the EU Alpha forum but we all know that's not quite a busy place and since there isn't a big feedback thread for Shadow yet I intend this one to be just that. Here's the EU feedback thread if you're interested http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/17289020357

Now then, I'd like to start off this thread by copy pasting feedback that was posted in an MMO Champion thread. It's very thorough and accurately lists the many problems that are currently at play. All credit goes to Kaesebrezen.

Particularly important: Number 1-3, 7 and 9.

1. Extending Voidform is meaningless.

Aside of using Void Torrent, there is practically no point in using any talent-based Insanity generation to extend Voidform.

Previously you had an additional benefit of overlapping Lingering Insanity with a new Voidform, yet now something else takes effect: You use up your additional Insanity generators to extend Voidform, get more Haste, and therefore get into the next Voidform faster. Just that using these generators outside will get you into your next Voidform even more faster than a few additional stacks of Lingering Insanity would allow.

The most recent build changed generation and depletion in two ways: You generate less, and you deplete more.
This has a huge impact on how to use your additional generation. Faster depletion means that you using these spells inside Voidform will net less extension, while slower generation means they're more valuable outside.

There just is no reason at all to use any spell that generate Insanity, and have the options of being used outside of Voidform, to extend Voidform.

Lastly, there is also Sphere of Insanity, which requires you to enter Voidform as often as possible, and the recently added 4-piece T19 setbonus, which also wants you to enter Voidform as often as possible.

2. Multi Dotting vs. maximizing Voidform uptime (vs. VB and MB)

This is the first of major counter intuitive designs that Voidform has, it's not about multi-dotting not being worth it, but simple about what feels like the right thing to do. By idea (in the class preview blog), you want to maximize your time in Voidform, either total uptime or singular time in one given Voidform.

Having DoTs not generate Insanity, any time you're multi-dotting, regardless of how strong it is, you are in a state of "doing something wrong", as you simple do not generate Insanity for Voidform.

This point is further emphasized during Voidform, where a large junk of GCDs is taken up by two nearly equal spells: Void Bolt and Mind Blast. They have a low CD, deal very high damage, and generate a lot of Insanity. It's just seems generally wrong to apply DoTs during Voidform, given how little GCDs there are already.

Yet outside of Voidform, applying DoTs means you are delaying your next Voidform, and all the bonuses it brings by quite a bit. Lingering Insanity does not really help here.

Various way to remedy this:

- Have DoTs generate Insanity either on cast or per tick (not just with the set bonus)
- Have Mind Flay not generate Insanity (you trade Insanity free GCDs for Insanity Free GCDs)
- free up additional GCDs by having Void Bolt replace Mind Blast during Voidform
- give Mind Blast/Void Bolt a charge pool (you can delay it to apply DoTs, not wasting the cooldown time)

3. Lack of Control and large damage variance

With the recent reduction of Insanity generation, your time outside of Voidform increased, while your time Inside of Voidform decrease.

Ideally you'd want to align Voidform with encounter mechanics, be it add spawns or when you don't have to move, but there simple are no options to achieve this goal.

The damage difference between inside and outside of Voidform just is too large. There are simple to many mechanics tied into Voidform:

A 30% damage multiplier
A reduced Mind Blast cooldown
A high hitting, low CD damage spell.
A very high hitting, high CD damage spell.
Sphere of Insanity
Mass Hysteria.

Past history of no control of three iterations of Eclipse have shown that it's nothing good, and Voidform is beating that by miles with an even less control and an even higher damage difference of inside and outside.

4. Void Torrent

Some minor intuitive issues on how to use this spell optimally.

Going by the the "your Insanity no longer drains"-effect, you ideally want to use it near the end of Voidform. This sadly in most cases will require you to signficantly delay the spell when it comes of cooldown. Given it's high damage, simple using the spell on cooldown is very likely optimal, while intuitively you'd want to save it for the end of Voidform.

In the vast majority of cases, you'll likely want to enter Voidform as soon as you're able to. However, there are still many cases where it's extremely valuable to be able to delay it until the right time. This includes things like saving burst for a key moment in a fight, or when out questing if you're about to kill the last mob that's in range. Because of this, we're trying out a more flexible, manually-activated Voidform. Feedback on how that feels, whether it's more hassle than it's worth, etc, is quite welcome.
