It's difficult to see from the angles presented, but they actually are like metal hammers. No, we're not going to make beer-related totems.

Also, I think you may be underestimating how large they are....

Much of the design of the totems also came from the racial crests. I ask you to look at the wallpaper I linked earlier and then explain if you can't see the correlation. :)
