it now gives 20% AP for melee dps, 10% ranged attack power for hunters.

yes, this is a melee dps buff primarily. but isnt this a band-aid fix to a much larger problem, specifically, the disparity that exists between melee and ranged?

shouldnt balance be achieved through talents and proper scaling for specs? 10% more attack power will close the gap somewhat, but this doesnt change the underlying problems that exist. I play ranged classes as well, but throwing an AP buff at the melee/ranged problem isnt going to accomplish a lot.

regardless, ranged will remain superior for their ability to multidot, maintain better uptime, and so on. without a change to raid dynamics, this buff doesnt really solve anything.

If a buff like this is what they think was needed it should have been implemented in a different way....like adding it to the raid itself, like the icc buffs. I hope i'm wrong, havent read up on it much...but if the added 10% ap spills over into pvp....its just adding uneeded buffs/damage to pvp and burst/zergs are already out of control as is.

We actually think this change is the most appropriate way to get there.

Melee DPS is generally in a good place over the spectrum of the entire game. There are some melee specs that are too high or too low compared to other melee, but overall casters don't eclipse melee in all situations. Casters do too much damage compared to melee in raids however (speaking very broadly – individual encounters can vary significantly, and there are several casters with legendary weapons at this point).

Rogue and warrior damage, to use two examples, don't need an across-the-board DPS increase in PvP. We didn’t want a solution that just buffs melee DPS all the time. Rather, we want to buff melee DPS when the melee could benefit from stacking raid buffs.

Sorry about the strangely missing (and very important) word in the above, which I have edited (bolded).
