"Failed to download information about the next patch. Check your network connection." is the exact problem i'm getting. WoW was working fine thismorning but after mucking around with my WTF and Interface files to try and copy another players addons and addon settings (I deleted the previous Interface and WTF folders and replaced them with my friends) wow wouldn't start because I got this error. I ran repair and it didn't work, it isn't a problem with torrenting, it has to be a problem that I have created by removing those files. Any ideas?

Check to see if you have a proxy enabled. Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and press the 'R' key. This should bring up the Run dialog box. In that box I want you to type inetcpl.cpl and hit OK.

Once the Internet Properties window comes up, click on the 'Connections' tab, then click on 'LAN Settings' and let me know if the box is checked next to "Use a proxy server for your LAN."

Next, try patching the game in Selective Startup mode: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=21052
