Since the release of the first Warcraft game, the lore of the Warcraft universe has been evolving and expanding at an incredible rate. Today, Warcraft lore is spread across four games and three expansions as well as a number of novels, a pen-and-paper roleplaying game, and even a manga series. Now you can find all there is to know about Warcraft in one official source of all things Warcraft:

The Warcraft Encyclopedia- http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/index.xml

The Encyclopedia will contain information about all major races, factions, and characters, and you will also learn interesting new things about the different worlds that make up the Warcraft universe. The first release of the Encyclopedia focuses mostly on the elves of Azeroth and their relation to each other :
  • night elves (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/508.xml)
  • high elves (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/429.xml)
  • blood elves (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/338.xml)

You might also want to take this opportunity to brush up on your Darnassian (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/361.xml) and Thalassian (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/576.xml), and if you ever plan to visit the Emerald Dream (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/394.xml), it would be best if you read up about it in advance.

This collection of Warcraft lore will be updated several times a year with significant volumes of new information, and in time, it will grow to be the ultimate resource for all your Warcraft story and lore needs.

We hope you’ll enjoy the Warcraft Encyclopedia!

You really think this encyclopedia is better? Because I looked all over it, and I couldn't find 1 thing about professions, boss fights, boss loot tables, rep grinds, instance info, etc etc...

It sounds like a good chunk of the information you are looking for is already in testing in the in-game knowledge base or being added to it. Not everything will be found there since we don't like to reveal every detail but rather let others discover it where we can.

Ah, that was going to be my next question. Will this info be found in the in-game encyclopedia? Would be good reading for some of those intracontinental flights..

Some things will be on the website and some will be in-game. We don't want to overload the in-game knowledge base with things that we can easily add to the website to balance the load.

    Wait I'm confused.

So you are saying this is basically a big lore collection (sort of like the troll thing) and won't include any in-game style things like boss fight strats/ loot info/ quest info/ ect.

While we may give tips about things now and then, it's not generally our intention to give specific strategies for things. When we do things like that, people tend to think that it's the 'only' way to do something or the 'Blizzard approved" way. We want people to learn on their own and from each other too. The in-game knowledge base will be more of a 'support' base of information. People can access it first to get answers to questions before contacting a GM.

Here is a bit of information that was posted on the beta forums about the knowledge base: http://beta.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1101916&sid=1

From what I understand the Encyclopedia will have all the other juicy lore based bits and history that people have been wanting to know about.

They are seperate but related items as far as them both being new ways of us getting information that players want out to everyone.

I will take both of your 10 dollars. You can paypal me. Not that you'll believe me when I say that this is not the Creative Development team's way of keeping track 'for their own sake'. This is something we wanted to give to the community and are having a great time putting it together. It's great watching people get excited about the lore all over again.

No this isn't want Caydiem is working on. Nice guess but she has plenty of other things on her plate.

There is too much pessimism in one thread for such a fun new feature. You all should learn to loosen up a bit! Enjoy the little things! ;)
