Hey this thread is dedicated to communication between druids and some more related IRL and druid stuff :)

This thread will contain IRC channel information, Druid IRL Picture list and a link to the druid wiki where you can get all the info you need.

Overview:

IRC Channel:
IRC is short for Internet Relay Chat, and is a large chat network that functions by channels. The druids have one as well located on the popular IRC network related to gaming, Quakenet. Read more about IRC here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC
Here is Quakenets homepage: http://www.quakenet.org/

Server : irc.quakenet.org
Channel : #eu-druids
Direct link (copy paste this link into your browser if you have an IRC client installed: irc://irc.quakenet.org/eu-druids

Since Kalyissa startet the channel almost 10 months ago (March 14, 2006), we had an almost constant visitor amount (idlers) ranging from 180-220 most of the time. I can't remember seing this channel with under 150 visitors often. Its still active and you can get response on your questions, specs etc. Post when you made something, chat, have fun etc. Its worth dropping by. You can get pretty much answer to ANYTHING there, and im sitting there answering several questions each day.

List of OPs (moderators) on the Druid IRC Channel:
  • Athinira, Tauren Druid, Ravencrest - Prime moderator

  • Azgaz, Tauren Druid, <DarkStorm> on Al'Akir

  • Coedan, Tauren Druid, <Imbalanced> on Neptulon

  • DiamondTear, Night Elf Druid, <Shinasu > on Draenor - Prime moderator

  • Kalyissa, Night Elf Druid, <Element> on Kul Tiras - Channel Owner

  • Keeper, former Tauren Druid, Vashj

  • Kheletarr, Tauren Druid, <realitysucks> on Magtheridon

  • Tater, Tauren Druid, <If in doubt AFK out> on Silvermoon

  • Torii, Tauren Druid, <Last Resort> on Kazzak

How to get on IRC:
There are several IRC (Internet Relay Chat) clients that can help you get online.

1) Browser
IF you are using Firefox or Netscape, you can get ChatZilla which is an extention to the browsers mentioned, that allows you to connect to IRC, grab it here:
http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla/

You can find a ChatZilla guide right here:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/user-guide.html

2) Stand alone client
Loads of clients exists that allows you to connect to IRC.
mIRC: http://www.mirc.com
AcidMax from Team Nexgen: http://www.tnexgen.com/scripts.php

I recommend using ChatZilla if you got Firefox or Netscape, else use either mIRC or AcidMax (which is a modification of mIRC). You can get a list of many other IRC clients here:
http://www.ircreviews.org/clients/

Here is a screenshot of a basic discussion on the IRC channel (this time relating to the Bear Form threat nerf which arrived the day this screenie was taken. It shows how IRC looks from my point of view. Im using Chatzilla and Firefox, i apologise for the large resolution btw):

As you can see im currently idling on 4 channels, #eu-druids, #eu-warrior, #eu-paladin and #vashj (last one is a server dedicated channel, and since Keeper plays there im in to see all the love DRAMAH going on from time to time). We have 212 users in the Druid channel (check upper right corner) at that time.

Rules on the IRC Channel:
First and foremost, Quakenet is a FREE Network, and is owned by a third party. Therefore they have their own rules, that we all, mods on the channel as well as every other player, needs to follow.
You can find the Quakenet rules here: http://www.quakenet.org/faq/faq.php?c=136&f=213#213

Channel rules:
  • 1) No spamming

  • Disallowed by Quakenet rules as well its quite simple, don't spam

  • 2) Don't act like a child

  • We try to keep the channel at a mature and fun level for everyone. That means you shouldn't join if you can't take a joke or some fun, you should be able to participate in any debate in the channel on a mature level.

If you happen to be the type that gets easily insulted or have some other issues you are still welcome as long as you attempt to control it.

  • 3) Language

  • The preferred language is English, but we won't enforce it roughly. We support english as the general language in the channel, and encourage users to speak so as well. We don't descriminate people who can't speak perfect English, and we try to respect it most of the time, so if you aren't adept at english just do your best :)

We will still advice people able to speak and write fluent english to do so. Smart ass leetspeak like using "u" instead of "you" and other annoying ways to type lazy doesn't belong in a discussion. This isn't a written rule, but we reserve ALL right to moderate the channel in accordance should this become an annoyance.

  • 4) No censoring on the channel

  • As long everything written in the channel goes according to QuakeNet rules, feel free to discuss it. This could be wether or not Kalyissa got a nice behind, if Keeper is a a smartass, if Warlocks are overpowered or if Athinira writes globes of bull*!#*. Everything is welcome as long as its on the level of fun and not direct insulting or anything of the like.

  • 5) Naming and shaming rules apply!!

  • If anyone posted something insulting or was acting aggresively or discriminating or anything similar, don't post it on the Blizzard forums. Then forums and the IRC channel should and will be kept seperated.

If you have any problem with a Moderator on the channel or another person on the channel, speak to one of the Moderators. Kalyissa is channel owner with me and DiamondTear as "second in command". Since i know DiamondTear is easily annoyed because we love him for being an elitist (<3) and Kalyissa is often busy, i recommend taking up channel stuff with me. If i happen to be offline, wait to see if i get online.

  • 6) Respect each other

  • There are, as we speak, exactly 200 people on the druid Channel. One of these is "Q", the Quakenet bot that handles many different tasks. The remaining 199 of the names is other people, humans, most of them fellow druids. Treat them with respect, treat their opinions with respect and we might all get along.

And just to get it clear: Racism, Discrimination or anything similar is a nogo, NO exceptions. This is the most important part of all the rules, and i don't want to see it, neither will most other people.

  • 7) QuakeNet and the Blizzard forums are independant

  • Just a reminder, Blizzard Entertainment is in no way affiliated with the Channel, the QuakeNet networks or servers in any shape or form.
