Are all Prof's INSANELY expensive to level?

I just finished maxxing out Engineering and it basically took every piece of gold I could muster. In the end I must have easily spent over 12k to level (and that's with getting help from Guild friends, using all my Alt's gold and buying Ore to be smelt into bars, instead of just buying the bars).

Are all the Prof's this expensive to level?

This. You left mining to sit and gather dust while buying your way up with engineering. Yeah, that's going to be expensive.
