Why should this quote apply to all specs besides healers? Why must a Holy paladin sit out of a raid because they dont bring what another healer has?

This is your quote blizz, why dont you live up to it and make it apply to healers as well.

There are exceptions to every rule of course, but in general it's a maxim we still like to follow.

Healers are in a slightly different situations from tanks or dps classes because we assume you bring 3 or so on a 10-player raid and 7-8 on a 25-player raid. Since there are only 4 healing classes, this means it is probable you have all 4 of those classes on a 25-player raid. As such, we haven't pushed for as much overlap in the healing classes as we have for the other roles.

We have tried to give you all of the tools you need to heal a heroic 5-player dungeon though.

If your guild just happens to have 7 great Holy paladins and no good Resto shamans, are you in trouble? Probably not. It might be easier with the shammies, but you can probably do fine with just the paladins. We think this is a different situation than trying to have a Feral druid tank Illidan pre-nerf, which wasn't an issue of harder or easier -- it was just impossible.
