I believe this download was in the neighbor hood of 300 M/b, I could be incorrect. Anyway the download was reported as complete and playable. Started wow and realms are still down, so i found that playable was false. also dropping firewall may increase the speed of download if anyone is interested. WAITING BLIZZARD!

Just as a note, the scheduled end time for the maintenance has been 2pm PDT since its announcement. Don't know where people are getting the 11am/12pm times from.

This is visible in the launcher and on @BlizzardCS.

as someone that works in the networking industry, it does not take 8 hours to patch servers, unless theres are HUGE issues. especially considering the fact that most companies are not using multilple real servers anymore. chances are they are using whats called virtual servers, many servers on one. this makes it even less likely that it would take 8+ hours to patch them, its a copy paste thing no matter what. so yeah, BLIZZ, TURN THE STUPID SERVERS BACK ON.
I'm glad you can backseat develop, but no.

I can't even...

The audacity of the player base is sickening. Get over yourselves. Either, you work at McDonalds, or you actually know how long it takes for humans to implement any change to our technology. There is no in between.
If maintenances were as simple as uploading a patch, perhaps.

Wait..the servers have an on/off switch?

Is it next to the coffee maker?
Yeah, sorry. Someone spilled the coffee this morning so we're waiting on the repair guy to get in and fix the switch.

Of all days for this to happen...

Funny to see you call somebody a backseat developer when you are nothing more than a glorified CSR who rarely even has an answer to something other than "I'll ask somebody"
You don't really deserve a response, but I'll give you one since I have nothing else to do til the game is live.

Never said I wasn't a "glorified CSR" and I never said I was a "developer", but I do have the experience of watching maintenances at multiple gaming studios and know that its not as simple as "turning the servers back on".

If you'd like to attack my job though, which it seems you know nothing about, I'm not really sure you're in the right place. :)

Probably shouldn't have bragged the last 3 times you patched about how you beat your window by 4+ hours then. People turn it into an expectation rather than a reality. We don't need to be developers to realize that things follow trends.

He's not wrong, he may not be a developer, but you had a bigger patch that took less time, logic states that it doesn't take this long to patch, you are choosing to take this long to patch OR something went wrong.

It would be more fair to say that we don't know how many people, what type of effort, and what the realistic expectation of those combined is, not that we don't know anything about patch times. We've been here for over 10 years dealing with these patches, we have an idea.
For sure - I don't really think its something to brag about, but I also dont think I've done that personally. From my understanding this is the largest content patch we've ever implemented - so I'd think some extra time with testing and such is in order. As someone who has played since early on, the notion of us implementing such a large update makes sense for there to be a few extra precautions (as I'm sure most of the community would agree with).

In a perfect world we would want the servers to be up ASAP, but I think the realistic expectation should always be that the servers will be up by the end of our given time-frame, and nothing more.

If it were to be extended beyond that, then we'd definitely be a bit more forthcoming on these things, but for now this is where we stand. Servers will be up soon™.

Playable means your client is up to date.

They told you it would be a couple more hours. Chill.

Where would that be? It is not on my launchers "advertising". Still says 11:00 Pst. 2:00pm Est.

If it is from twitter, then wtf are these forums for?
The launcher says 2:00 PM (PDT) for me. Are you seeing 2:00 PM EST? If so, can you provide an image?

I personally have always preferred this than the latter. It's never been fun for you to put up an 8 hour window and take 12. I just believe that expectation needs to be curved when this big of a window is put in place. A precursor of sorts on how something big is changing and the maintenance may take it's full duration.

I know that you have 8 hours, you know that we have 8 hours, but a lot of people that don't know anything other than how long the last patches took are mislead to believe that the window is a "just in case" not "we intend to use it all".

Thank you for not attacking me like everyone else lol.
Yeah, that's the hardest thing. When folks are waiting for the button to be clickable on patch day it's hard to set expectations before the flood gates open.

But no worries! Not trying to be mean or rude here purposefully, just want to make sure we can defend ourselves at the same time (which can be hard on patch days when people come in to roll over us because things aren't going exactly as they want :P).

See you in 7.2! o/
