Just as a note, the scheduled end time for the maintenance has been 2pm PDT since its announcement. Don't know where people are getting the 11am/12pm times from.
This is visible in the launcher and on @BlizzardCS.
...I'm glad you can backseat develop, but no.
Probably shouldn't have bragged the last 3 times you patched about how you beat your window by 4+ hours then. People turn it into an expectation rather than a reality. We don't need to be developers to realize that things follow trends.
He's not wrong, he may not be a developer, but you had a bigger patch that took less time, logic states that it doesn't take this long to patch, you are choosing to take this long to patch OR something went wrong.
It would be more fair to say that we don't know how many people, what type of effort, and what the realistic expectation of those combined is, not that we don't know anything about patch times. We've been here for over 10 years dealing with these patches, we have an idea.
For sure - I don't really think its something to brag about, but I also dont think I've done that personally. From my understanding this is the largest content patch we've ever implemented - so I'd think some extra time with testing and such is in order. As someone who has played since early on, the notion of us implementing such a large update makes sense for there to be a few extra precautions (as I'm sure most of the community would agree with).
In a perfect world we would want the servers to be up ASAP, but I think the realistic expectation should always be that the servers will be up by the end of our given time-frame, and nothing more.
If it were to be extended beyond that, then we'd definitely be a bit more forthcoming on these things, but for now this is where we stand. Servers will be up soon™.
