GC, request this report from you BA's
Ghostcrawler,

I do business reporting. I'd like to know if you could release information on the following questions. A lot of people are stating there is a shortage of healers, a few numbers will give a definitive answer.

1st) How many new characters were made (make the cut off at least lvl 20), since WotLK was released, that are healers (druid/sham/priest/pally that are 80%> talent points in healing), in comparison to DPS or Tanking classes.
-This lets you know what roles a need were displayed after WotLK were released

2nd) What is the average play time of Healers (80%> talent points into healing), DPS (80%> talent points into DPS) and Tank (80% > talent points into tanking) classes of all characters since WotLK has been released. Now compare those numbers to the time frame for when BC was released to the last day of BC before WotLK were released
-This lets you take a look at play times at BC to WotLK
-You could probably modify this for major patches in BC as well to see how those patches effected play time

3rd) Out of your active users (however you define this) who is considered a healer, since WotLK, how many of them now spend the majority of their play time on non-healing characters. Throw out those characters who are now playing on DK's because they are new
-This shows you how many characters are not playing healing because of the recent changes

4th) Cancellation rate of accounts whose main is a healer spec since WotLK. I doubt you can release these numbers to the public, but probably not bad to have.

If you can release the numbers for reports 1 to 3, it will go a long way in at least answering the healer shortage. You also might want to put a filter for end game players as well, say only characters 80 to get a better idea how the end is handling the changes.

Also to the general public, if you want to see these numbers, bump the post. Of course Blizzard could just release bad numbers to us, on the other hand the developers will at least have to look at them, assuming they don't have reports built to answer those questions.

I try to be as open with the community as I can, but at the end of the day we are still a business, and there is some information we just can't release to the public.

In general, I have found these forums work better when the players provide information to us rather than asking for us to provide it to them... though I don't mind answering the occasional question about our design intent, whether something is working as intended, or our plans for the future.
