It was my understanding that the new AOE mechanic did not involve the totems generating threat and thus invite being killed by any lvl 1 mob right away.
If this is the case, the Magma totem will invite is own destruction if it is the first to damage a mob.
A preferable behavior would be to have the threat directed to the casting Shaman and not the totem.
