server full, position in queue: 600
wtf ?
I know it is a beta phase and blizzard certainly wanted to allow as much people to playtest it as possible but why do you give away 3000 accounts if you know only 500 will be able to enter at once and in the server will only work as expected with 300 ? (numbers are totally random)
My main goal when I got this beta key from the wwi was really to test as much as possible and give feedback, the first few days I played i filled a report for each quest done, afiter the first week the server lag started to appear (yes IT IS server lag and not client lag) and with it the disconnection added to the server crash/restart (they are normal in beta phase but added with the connection problem they are really annoying). The result is: I played less and less and it only get worse as time pass and now we cannot even enter the realm:
- since 2 or 3 week it is an epic quest by itself to convince the login server to let me enter the server and when I get in I have something like 3/4s lag (with only 300ms of ping...), it never took so much time to cast an instant spell.
- yesterday and the day before the login servers was taking a really huge time to let me pass through and then I was stuck while loading the character screen
- and today that the login server seems to run fine we have a queue to enter the realm, nice...

I know you certainly do not care at all since I have already understand that the real play testers are the US players and the european one is just to give us a toy to play with but in the end it is more frustrating than anything else.

Q u o t e:
I'll take the queue. It's better than six hours of "disconnected from server" with no idea of what's going on.

And it may mean they're monitoring how much the server is queued, which is also good news if it leads them to conclude this is unnacceptable.

Yes, I'm very pleased to end up waiting in the queue. It means they're listening.
Of course we do listen and do investigate the issues, I really wouldn't have said we were if we weren't. As far as I am aware though, the queue system is the same as on the live servers. So it has purely been the log in issues that have prevented the queue system from doing its thing.

Q u o t e:
I think what they are trying to do is test the server in extreme situations, to see it's performance. So it's actually good to put the server under so much pressure, can help prevent stuff crashing etc on release day.
Of course, I see this theory posted a lot. I've got to say though, it's not the case. There have been clear issues with the log in process especially, and they have been investigated and are seemingly for the moment resolved. I say for the moment because there has been repeated log in issues throughout the beta and alpha, and if I was a betting man I wouldn't say there'd be no more to come. If and when they do, we'll investigate them, and I can only again repeat a request for people to remain patient and... polite. ;-)

Does this mean that the queue system was implemented before yesterday? At least, I am very glad that things are working, and I do prefer a queue in which I have to wait 20 minutes than trying to log in in vain for several hours.
As far as I am aware it has always been there, but it requires the log in process to be functional and for the currently online in-game population to be at or above a certain point.
