Fishing from pools......
is it worth it? When trying for gold i mean.

Ive been looking into it and I think i can make more gold (alot more gold) NOT fishing from pools, sounds mad but heres why.

Fishing from a pool USUALLY gives you one of the pools designated fish and something like a pygmy suckerfish, yes it drops other things but rarely and even rarer anything of value.

On my server pygmy suckerfish go for a measly 3g a stack, whereas the glacial salmon im catching goes for 90g a stack, so i make more money sitting constantly fishing an area rather than going from pool to pool. This annoys me because its very boring.

Basically im saying blizz please buff the fishing pools!

Don't forget, in patch 3.3.0 you never catch trash from fishing pools, regardless of skill.

You realise that is not only irrelevant, but a real kick in the teeth for people who actually bothered to level fishing right? [snip!] I appreciate you as an individual didn't make, nor do you necessarily support (although obviously you'll back) this change, but is my frustration not understandable?
We are simply informing as is part of our duty. It was not irrelevant, as being able to catch fish that people use for food is one way to get a bit of gold and is faster than doing so from grey items. If you choose to extrapolate us informing our players with upcoming changes to gameplay as a sign that we somehow do not empathise with your frustration before we've even heard it, then you need to consider that we are not always able to predict a personal reaction before it is actually expressed or before we have read it. ;-)

Personally, with one character maxed in Fishing and one other just under 400, I am not really bothered by the change. I don't get motivated by being able to fish high level fish, instead I seem to be strangely motivated just to max out a profession. ;-) It's only when it's at 450 that I feel able to leave it alone. Yes, I have no idea why I need two high level fisherfolk, but there you go. Especially with professions I find myself with a strong drive just to max them out, though usually only with the primary crafting ones.

But its not a must have thing, its not something that every player must do.
I didn't claim it was! The original poster was asking about gaining gold from fishing.

Q u o t e:
It was irrelevant to the actual question posed by the OP though, was it not?
Not from what I understood. The original poster was asking if fishing from pools was worth it for gold, and I believe my response was relevant. I guess we can agree to disagree, mayhaps? ;-)

Q u o t e:
I apologise for my hostility, it wasn't intended, but has nonetheless surfaced. I always recline and laugh at the people who get into these "disputes" with blue, but it seems without meaning to I've become the very thing I ridiculed.
I do not feel in dispute with you, just seems we both took something different from the original post.

Q u o t e:
I mean more specifically why the devs felt this specific change was necessary.
Straight up, I don't know myself. Though we'll ask the question internally, it can take some time to get a response and we don't typically make promises that we can try and get information in case we are ultimately unable to.

Please, by all means, express yourself and your frustration. We strongly feel that this is the place to express your feedback to us, and we value all feedback given as long as it respects our forum rules, which you have done or this discussion wouldn't be continuing. ;-)

Right, that's kinda what I meant to ask. You would get "Fish got away" all the time if your profession level was too low for the water. So in 3.3 this will never happen?
This is already the case in the live game -- you no longer get that message, instead you get a grey level item. The change coming in 3.3 means that instead of getting a grey item from a pool, you will instead be guaranteed to get a fish of the same type as the pool, irrespective of your fishing skill level. Yes this will mean a character with level 1 fishing skill can fish up a Deep Sea Monsterbelly, for instance. Currently you need around 480 fishing skill to start fishing Deep Sea Monsterbellies from one of their pools.

Q u o t e:
What's the point of leveling up your fishing skill, then?
Those who enjoy fishing for fishing's sake can do so and get some useful rewards while doing it, or at least stuff they can sell. Those who only level up fishing so they can get high level fish can now get what they want (the fish) without having to put in the time investment first. Like when we lowered the cost of riding skills, it's good for new players or those playing alternative characters, but yes potentially a point of frustration for those that have already invested the time.

Perhaps people like me will no longer see 450 fishing as the goal, but will instead just fish and not care about the fishing skill anymore. Personally, I can enjoy fishing as a bit of a relaxing break away, but yes it might be good to be able to concentrate my time on other things instead. Though I still haven't got that lovely turtle mount yet... ;-)

Blizz think it through, currently high lvl fish sells for a lot of gold (obviously this will change dramatically) but if i was looking to make a quick amount of gold on say a new server, I know what i'd do.

"LF warlock to summon me to Northrend"

Spirit run somewhere, probably the fishing pools near all the icebergs, fish, fill bags, mail to another lvl1 alt, sell, profit.

See the problem here? I guess you don't. Sigh
If the supply of fish really does grow drastically, the auction house price will drop because the supply will outweigh demand. Either you'll want to use the fish for yourself for buffing your own characters or those of your guild, or you can still vendor it if vendor prices become higher than those you'd get from the AH. Ultimately with the raw fish you have more options than you did with a grey level trash item.

Those vendor prices are only few copper....
Then the AH might still be a good place to sell the raw fish, if you don't want it for your own characters.

Personally, I store all the fish I catch -- well, all the fish that can be used for decent buff food. I always need it for at least one of my characters at some point.

Q u o t e:
Could you, while you are at it. Change how you acctually fish?
We could, and I believe we are aiming to for Cataclysm, either at release or in a major content patch.

Q u o t e:
Does the Turtle mount only come from schools of fish?

Does the mount only drop for people over a certain skill and/or level?

Is cooking changing too?
1) Only from Northrend pools at present.

2) If you can catch a fish from a pool you have a very small chance of finding the turtle.

3) There are no planned changes to cooking in 3.3.

Edit: so that means technicially a level 1 can have a turtle mount.
Technically they could own one, I guess. They could also own a collection of flying mounts. They couldn't use any of them, though.
